Under a mutual-aid agreement, Kissimmee Utility Authority will send crews, a convoy of vehicles and other supplies to Mississippi to assist Coast Electric Power Association with power restoration in areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.Kissimmee, Fla

Linemen at Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) spent Friday packing equipment and receiving a round of immunization shots as they prepare to head to the Gulf Coast today to restore electric service in areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
As part of KUA`s mutual-aid agreement with utilities throughout the nation, the utility will send crews, a convoy of vehicles and other supplies to Kiln, Miss. to assist Coast Electric Power Association with power restoration. Kiln is located approximately 60 miles northeast of New Orleans, La.
KUA linemen will depart between 5-6 a.m. on Sept. 10 from the utility`s service center, located at 2850 N. John Young Parkway in Kissimmee. The crews are expected to be gone for two weeks.
Earlier this week KUA sent two of its contract tree trimming crews to Gulfport, Miss.
In addition, the utility sent line crews and tree trimming crews to south Florida on Aug. 27 to help restore power after Hurricane Katrina made its initial landfall before heading to the Gulf Coast.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida`s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
